Healing Hands and Reiki
This past weekend, I had the great honor of becoming Reiki 1 certified.
Over the past few years, I have struggled with my personal health and after seeing a slew of doctors, specialists, and other conventional medical practitioners, I came up largely empty handed as to answers for any of the problems that I was experiencing. I turned to alternative medicine options, including acupuncture, herbal supplements, Ayurvedic living, meditation, increased my yoga practice, regular massages, detox baths, food cleanses, juicing, vegan diet, protein diet... I tried a ton of stuff. What I've found is that self-care is of utmost importance. My goal is to grow my self-care toolbox and in that journey, I want to share with everyone what that looks like. This is why I wanted to get Reiki certified.
I have found some things that definitely work. I have found some things that kind of work. I have found some things that really don't work for me personally. Each person will be different.
You want to know what Reiki is all about and my experience?! Read on!
What is Reiki?
It is an energy healing technique in which the person performing Reiki channels energy to help activate the natural healing processes of the patient's own body to restore physical and emotional well-being.
Do you touch the person?
It is a combination of touch and no touch.
Is it hokey-pokey?
I thought it could be, but I'm willing to have an open mind. Turns out, it's a real thing. Turns out, my attunement was impactful and I felt things and I was all, "Oh. This is real. Yowza."
What did I feel?
During my attunement (eyes closed), I felt an immense amount of energy - I felt pulling forces through my spine. Then suddenly I saw a shimmering, multi-colored, black half circle blob of light? energy? radiating from the bottom of in front of my closed eyes. It slowly emerged with rounded tips and grew larger, attempting to take over my entire field of (closed eyes) vision. I thought, "OH WAIT. WHAT THE ACTUAL..." and then I realized, I just needed to go with it and it washed over my eyes and down the front of my body, warming my entire body.
I did not expect this to happen. I was taken aback and then felt full body joy. Even my fingertips felt happy.
I spent the rest of the weekend practicing and being practiced on. So, I've completed step 1 of 3!
My journey continues and I'm not sure what my next play is. I have some ideas about next steps but right now, I'm going to hone in my energy skills and develop what I've learned!
If you get a chance to do a Reiki session, give it a shot! If you're local and looking for a place, give Sprout Spa Holistic a try. The owner is my Reiki master and her spa is great!
